Mark Moser is the ProKids volunteer IT guru. He came to ProKids in 1998 to help solve computer wiring issues and remains on call whenever needed. During the past 10 years, he’s managed the computer systems, offered technical support, and assisted in the audio/visual and technical aspects of the yearly auction, including setting up databases and writing results screens. Mark showed true staying power when he agreed to run the network wire in ProKids' previous office building—a Walnut Hills home built circa 1930—that included drilling through walls and snaking along sewer pipes.
“I like knowing I’m contributing,” says Mark, “to those who can’t help themselves. And children in foster care can’t help themselves—they don’t have the tools or the power. That’s what ProKids gives them: the tools and the power.
“I don’t think I’d make a good CASA volunteer, but I can use the gifts God gave me to help in my own way. And I’ve been blessed with employers who support my efforts to help ProKids.” —Mark Moser, IT Manager, Pilot Chemical Company; IT Volunteer since 1998 Karen Morgan heads up the ProKids Resource Team—a team of several hundred volunteers connected via an email list. When our children need gently used items such as mattresses, beds, dressers, etc., members of this vital group receive an email request. If they’re able to fill the request with items from their attic, garage, or basement, they respond, and Karen arranges pickup and delivery of the items.
In 2007, Karen’s Resource Team received 35 requests for a multitude of items, including bedding, air–conditioning units, and dressers, and was able to fill 94 percent of the requests. Karen has spent long hours driving to all parts of town and hauling bulky items, and has succeeded in lining up extra storage space. A longtime supporter of ProKids, Karen also is involved in the ProKids Auction, Run for Kids, Friends of Children Breakfast, and anything else she’s asked to help with!
“Sometimes a child can’t be placed in a home with a relative or friend because that home doesn’t have a spare bed. We’re so thankful to have Karen Morgan’s Resource Team standing by to help our children get the beds and other items they need,” says Charlotte Caples, ProKids CASA Program Director. —Karen Morgan, Aviation Manager at GE; Resource Team since 2006Share your success story.
