2006 Outcomes

Each CASA's work has a dramatic impact on our children:

99% of our children were free from abuse while in the foster care system.
Jenni was placed in the foster care system because she had been sexually and emotionally abused. Her first foster parent was emotionally distant and unsupportive. CASA Kristina Cobb convinced the foster care network, the county, and the court to move Jenni into an emotionally supportive foster home where Jenni is now flourishing.

81% of our children did not change homes while in the foster care system.
Irene's foster family wanted to adopt her, but had difficulties getting assistance with the process. They almost gave up. CASA Carolyn Ahlert worked with the county and the court to resolve those issues, and Irene stayed and is now their daughter!

71% of our children lived with their siblings while in the foster care system.
Brothers Darren & Sam had been placed in separate foster homes, but were miserable without each other. CASA Paul Swanson believed the boys should be in the same foster home. He advocated in court and the magistrate ordered the boys to be united.

96% of our children received the educational or developmental services they needed to grow and achieve.
Tami was out of school for many weeks because of behavioral issues. CASA Debbie Johnson spent hours working with the school, the legal aid attorney, and the school board to develop a special education plan. The plan was put into place and Tami is now consistently in school.

71% of our children had a permanent status within 16 months of being assigned a CASA.
Three brothers came into the system after their house had been raided and their mother charged with selling heroin. Because of the diligent advocacy of CASA Christie Sawyer, the children were placed in the legal custody of an aunt within six months, with all financial, and therapeutic services in place.

33% of our children were adopted within 24 months of becoming eligible for adoption.
CASA Amy Winkler worked tirelessly to help a foster family overcome difficulties with 15-year-old Jashawn and 13-year-old Austin. She was so successful that once the boys became eligible, the foster parents adopted them.

81% of our children returned home, were placed in an adoptive home, or placed in the legal custody of relatives or family friends at the time ProKids closed their cases. These children have the safe, permanent, nurturing home every child deserves.
CASA Amanda Spohn worked diligently on behalf of 1-year-old Mary to ensure her teenage mother gained the stability and skills necessary to provide a permanent, loving home for her daughter.

82% of our children lived with their siblings after leaving the foster care system.
Hydia, Christopher and Akasha had never known stability. Their mother was involved in a domestically violent relationship and had untreated mental illness. CASA Angel New advocated that the three siblings be placed in the legal custody of a family member so they could remain together.

100% of our children experienced stability for at least 6 months after leaving the foster care system.
Because of Sue Hughes' advocacy for services and careful monitoring, 18-month-old Dennis was able to return home to his mom and stay there.

100% of children did not experience a recurrence of abuse after leaving the foster care system.
One-year-old James was with his mother when she committed a serious crime. She left him at the scene when she attempted to flee from the police. CASA Diane Moccia worked with the father of little James, securing daycare and parenting, so that James would stay out of the system and have a safe, loving home to live in.
